Startup Weekend HQ VIP Zachary Cohn in Davao City on November 9-11, 2012
Startup Weekend comes to invade the shores of Davao City on November 9-11, 2012 as it continues to generate breakthrough ideas from tech communities in the Philippines this year.
The inaugural Philippine staging of Startup Weekend in Manila last year turned out to be among the most attended Startup Weekends worldwide in 2011 prompting the organizers to bring the event from Manila down south to Cebu and Davao for 2012.
Startup Weekends were earlier held in Manila last April and in Cebu last May. However, Startup Weekend Davao promised to be some kind of different from the previous two events in Manila and Cebu.
Startup Weekend Davao which will be hosted by the Philippines College of Technology (PCT) will have the privilege of having someone direct from Startup Weekend Headquarters in Seattle, USA facilitating the affair.
Zachary Cohn, Bootcamp Director/Human Relations at Startup Weekend HQ will be arriving here as facilitator of Startup Weekend Davao to maintain the consistency of the event structure and help the local organizers as well.
Cohn who will also be facilitating the second Startup Weekend in Cebu this year on November 16-18, 2012 works with Google to create a series of pre-Startup Bootcamps to teach Startup Weekend attendees about different technologies, platforms and APIs that can help them with their startups.
Cohn’s presence is a plus for participants as he is expected to sit down with them, nudge them in the right direction and increase their chances of success.
“On behalf of the organizing team, I wish to thank Startup Weekend HQ not just for its support but for its effort to empower and inspire entrepreneurs and startups here in Davao,” said lead organizer Dulce Rose Lada. “We are thrilled to have Zac Cohn as our facilitator.”
Other members of the organizing Tech-Talks.ph Davao team are Eric Su, Angel Abella, Andrew Dela Serna, Lyle Santos and Gay Viray.
“We would also like to thank Kickstart Ventures, Globe Telecom, PCT and Fluid for being our premier sponsors,” Lada added.
“Given our sheer size, we at Kickstart and Globe act as an enabler, supporter and commit our resources to help the community,” Kickstart Ventures vice president and community engagement head Christian Besler, who will also be among the onsite mentors in the event, said.
