From traditional folksongs to contemporary music, the premier ballet company of the Philippines, Ballet Philippines did dance performances which were truly entertaining and brings out one’s pride of being a Filipino. We are grateful to have been invited by our friends in SM Lanang Premier to watch them perform in the evening of August 22, 2015 at the premier mall’s atrium in time for the city’s Kadayawan Festival. The last time we saw them perform in Davao was also at SM Lanang Premier and it was memorable for us.
Masterpieces was the show they did in the US in time for the Filipino-American Heritage month, and also in Canada where they had a tour last October 2014 when Ballet Philippines was celebrating 45 years of dance. The show is a collection of works of several of the Philippines best choreographers including Davao’s very own pride, Agnes Dakudao Locsin.
Here are photos from their recent show in Davao City…
Their finale dance performance was done timely in a music of drums and beats that reminds me of the festival the city was celebrating this Kadayawan.
This very entertaining finale dance performance called “Tambol at Padyak” choreographed by Tony Fabella, is a dance they did using “bakya” or wooden slippers worn in blue for men and pink for the women dancers in the later part of it.
So entertaining was this last performance as it brought the show to a close with the crowd cheering.
Cheers to more years of inspiration and dance artistry! You make us Filipinos here and abroad proud.
SM AVP for Marketing in Mindanao Mr. Russel Alaba, with Ballet Philippines President Ms. Margie Moran Floirendo, and former President of HIJOS De Davao Ms. Jackie Garcia Dizon, among with other guests who had a photo opp with the premier ballet company’s dancers after their show in SM Lanang.
So looking forward to Ballet Philippines’ next show here in Davao City. More power and keep on sharing the grace and gift of dance through ballet and modern dance. Indeed, continue to dance for Davao and for all Filipinos!
