SM Lanang Premier Presents the Music of Kate Torralba’s Long Overdue Album

The metro’s premier shopping, lifestyle and entertainment destination brings another rare musical presentation with performances from multi-talented artist, Kate Torralba, slated this Sunday, April 6, 4 pm for ‘Rhythms at the Atrium’ at SM Lanang Premier.

Fashion designer-turned-musician Kate Torralba will play songs from her very first album, ‘Long Overdue,’ which was launched in 2013.

Although largely known for her colourful and vibrant designs, Kate has always had a passion for music, being brought up in a music-loving family. She began singing at age 2 and playing the piano at 4 years old in her native Cebu. By age 9, Kate was already performing in Los Angeles in a concert that featured young Filipino prodigies. She later picked up the electric guitar and formed her own band, Hard Candy, with alternative rock influences.

Kate then started making her own band costumes in Cebu and selling clothes to make extra money. In 2002, she caught the attention of Tim Yap and Tessa Prieto Valdes because of the dress she was wearing, and the demand for her designs has risen from that time on, including being asked to design for Hello Kitty by Gift Gate.

In 2010, after successful years of creating designs for Fashion Week shows and regular clients, Kate decided to return to music, which remains till this day her first love. Since then, she has performed in various gigs in the United States, at Fête de la Musique both in Paris and in Manila and in various parts of Europe such as Berlin, London and Birmingham.

After five years in the making, ‘Long Overdue’ is finally out and distributed by MCA Universal. The singles from the album are penned by Kate herself. These were inspired by stories from her previous relationships, which make her music very personal and from the heart.
